YOUNG carers from Gloucestershire have recently received cash and computers.

Gloucestershire Young Carers, which was announced as the Midcounties’ charity partner in Stroud, is an organisation that provides specialist support for children in the local area who care for a family member with an illness or disability, and offer one-to-one guidance and group counselling.

Libbie Gardner, acting nursery manager at Cooperative Childcare in Cainscross, Stroud, raised £275 for the charity when she ran the Westonbirt House Summer 10k race on August 4.

She said “There were some great runners at the event, with some of the local running clubs joining in.

“Although I didn’t quite beat their times, it was a fun day to be involved in.

“Gloucestershire Young Carers is an extremely worthwhile organisation.

“The children they work with have so many responsibilities to juggle at such a young age so I was keen to show my support.”

The money raised will go towards a number of initiatives, including weekend activities for the youngsters, and taxis to get them safely to and from those events.

Midcounties colleagues also recently supported a programme that arranged a donation of laptops to the Gloucestershire Young Carers groups in Dursley.

The young carers will use the laptops for producing their own charity newsletters, and for preparing CVs to help them secure employment.

This recent boost is some of the ongoing support for the charity which is part of the Society’s Regional Communities programme, providing meaningful support for local community groups through volunteering and fundraising.
