A man has been disqualified from driving for four months after he was caught travelling at 127mph on the M4.

Tariq Akhtar, 40, from Devon Road, Bristol, was stopped by a roads policing officer driving a Mercedes at about 10.30pm on January 25 on the M4 near Swindon.

He appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court last month and pleaded guilty to speeding.

As well as the disqualification, he was also fined £440, ordered to pay CPS costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £44.

PC Will Ayres said: "I am satisfied with the disqualification and fine handed out.

"Akhtar was caught speeding 57mph over the speed limit - this is completely unacceptable and shows he clearly had no regard for other road users.

"I would urge all drivers who decide to vastly exceed the speed limit to consider the implications a lengthy disqualification could have on their lives.

"There is no excuse to be driving at this kind of speed - please think about your actions."
