A MAN who was believed to have been carrying a firearm is being sought by Wiltshire Police after an incident at a Lacock garden centre.

A man wearing a balaclava approached staff at the Whitehall Garden Centre in Corsham Road on Monday (November 28) morning just before 7.30am as staff were opening up the shop. The staff were able to lock the premises and the man ran off towards the overflow car park and out of sight.

Reports have described the man to be of medium to stocky build, wearing a dark coloured jacket, dark trousers and dark coloured shoes or boots.

Detective Constable Tom Fenwick, of Trowbridge CID, said: “This was, understandably, a very frightening incident for the members of staff involved, but fortunately, nobody was injured.

“Following the call, there was a heavy police presence in the area, including armed response officers, who carried out patrols and searches of the area.

“We would like to reassure the local close-knit community that our investigation into this incident is continuing and increased patrols will be conducted in the vicinity over the coming days to provide community reassurance.

“We are appealing for the public’s help with our investigation and would ask anyone who may have information or who may have seen any suspicious activity around Whitehall Garden Centre during the early hours of this morning to contact police on 101.”
