WILTSHIRE Community Foundation has for the first time given out over £1 million in grants in a year

It is estimated that this has made an impact on an amazing 87,625 people across Wiltshire and Swindon during 2015/16.

Rosemary Macdonald, the foundation's chief executive, said: “This is the first time we have hit the magic million and we hope it won’t be the last. In times of increasing difficulty for many people, it is wonderful to be able to support the work of the voluntary sector across Wiltshire and Swindon.

"Most of the groups we fund are small, very local organisations who know what is needed in their towns and villages. It is our role and privilege to help where we can.”

The foundation funds local groups to support communities across Wiltshire and Swindon improving the lives of thousands of people. At least 48 per cent of funding goes towards communities in the top third most deprived in Wiltshire and Swindon.

Grants were awarded to groups like Youth Adventure Trust, which works with disadvantaged young people to provide residential adventure camps and day activities. Youth Adventure Trust aims to give young people hope, skills and confidence to face their personal challenges, gaining independence and resilience by facing tough challenges together.
