A TEENAGER due to appear the crown court has been banned from the whole of Swindon after breaching his curfew for the fifth time.

The 14-year-old, who grew up in Swindon where the rest of his family live, is currently living at an address in North Wiltshire and faces a string of charges in the crown court including robbery.

On Monday morning he appeared in the dock from custody at Swindon Magistrates’ Court where he admitted breaching his curfew conditions.

He is currently on bail from the crown court where he faces charges of aggravated burglary, robbery and possession of an offensive weapon and is next due to appear there on August 1.

In the meantime he has been bailed to live and sleep at an address in North Wiltshire and remain indoors between 8pm and 7am.

After breaching his bail for the fifth time he was arrested at the McDonald’s on Great Western Way at 6.45am on Sunday.

Crown prosecutor Keith Ballinger said the court’s hands were tied with how they could deal with the boy and invited the magistrates to readmit the boy to bail with a stern warning not to do it again and an additional condition banning him from the borough.

“It appears that every time he has breached his bail it is because he has been in Swindon and missed his bus home,” he said.

“The school holidays are now in place so there is no reason for him to come to Swindon.”

Defending the boy Emma Thacker told magistrates: “He believes his roll-up cigarette was laced with Spice. He thought he was in a lot of trouble and decided to stay away from home. Unfortunately 14-year-old logic came into play.”

Chairman of the bench Michael New released the boy on conditional bail to live and sleep at his North Wiltshire address, not to have contact with a list of named people, abide by the curfew, comply with the Youth Offending Team and not enter the borough of Swindon save for court appearances.
