BIGHEARTED Sainsbury’s staff have pulled up their sleeves in a charity campaign and raised £11,000 for the Bath RUH.

As their charity of choice for this year, it was decided in a public vote to back the Forever Friends appeal, which helps pay for additional equipment, research and innovations to improve patient care.

Working with Forever Friends, who were allowed to enter the store in Melksham with their stalls, Sainsbury’s had charity buckets and put on events such as a bowling night and staff member Jan Mallender performed a five-mile swim.

"It was fantastic to raise that amount and we did a lot of things throughout the year to reach it,” said store manager Mark Ogborne.

“That I am aware of it is the most we have raised since I have been here. It is lovely to hand over all that money to the charity."

The store has already chosen its charity for next year, Julia’s House children's hospice.
