Scores of sixteen and seventeen year-old students in lavish ball gowns and suits arrived in style to Grittleton House for their leavers day prom.

The Sheldon School students took a break from their notes and traded in their revision to celebrate the culmination of five years of learning on Thursday, May 12.

Mark Merriman, Head of Year 11, said: "The night went really, really well, as expected and the weather certainly helped! If you think back to last week we had monsoon like weather and we thought we might have to hire some boats to get us down Grittleton drive, but the weather was fantastic and helped make the day."

Traditionally, students arrive together in vintage cars or limos, but Sheldon students took it one step further by arriving in ice cream vans, horse drawn carriages and cranes, making it a night to remember.

Mr Merriman said: "There were some quirky vehicles on the night. We has a scooter, a tractor driven by Harry Rodgers, a crane and my favourite which was an ice cream truck. When the girls got out of the truck, the man gave them all ice creams which was great. A group of lads also arrived in a horse box wearing horses heads which was interesting!"

The students, who are currently undertaking their GCSEs were kept entertained by a magician, a casino, a disco and a silly photo booth which was well received. On the Friday, teachers amused their pupils with a DVD capturing their carpool karaoke performance, a Talking Heads style sketch and they also had a BBQ and went bowling in Swindon.

"It was a lovely culmination to the end of five years. Most tutors have been with the students for five years so we wanted to help them celebrate it too," Mr Merriman added.
