THE search in the Scottish highlands for Devizes man Robin Garton, who has not been missing for a week continued today.

Mountain rescuers Mr Garton, 69, from Roundway who disappeared in Glencoe last Friday believe he may have travelled to a popular scrambling ridge.

He is thought to have visited the Aonach Eagach Ridge on September 25.

Mr Garton left his hotel near Altnafeadh in Ballachulish that morning with plans to meet friends in the Kinlochewe area of Wester Ross on Sunday.

Mr Garton never arrived and his vehicle was later found in a car park in the Glencoe area.

Aonach Eagach is a popular ridge for scrambling - a kind of climbing which involves using hands and often ropes to clamber up rocky faces and ridges.

Members of the Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team were joined by search dogs and police search teams in the area today.

Glencoe MRT leader Andy Nelson said: "There is no more news in terms of progress but there are not many blank patches in the area we haven’t covered.

"We’re focusing on those at the moment and we never give up hope we’re going to find someone alive.

"Mr Garton is avid hillwaker - he does both scrambling and climbing - and the information we have points to him having visited Aonach Eagach on Friday.

"Obviously as time goes on the search does become more difficult."

Mr Nelson appealed to anyone who has any information or who may have seen Mr Garton in the Aonach Eagach Ridge area to contact Police Scotland on 101.

Mr Garton is 6ft 2in tall, with a slim to medium build. He has fair hair which is slightly balding and occasionally wears glasses.
