OVER 1,000 garden waste collection stickers have had to be re-issued by Wiltshire Council just weeks after introducing a paid-for collection.

The stickers were re-issued for a variety of reasons including the sticker not peeling off from the letter cleanly, the sticker becoming de-laminated or becoming water damaged, and stickers coming off the bins.

Gazette gardening correspondent Zena Robson, of Elliot Court in Devizes, said her sticker started peeling off just days after it was placed on her green waste bin.

She said: “We had a really good downpour and it started peeling off. They say put them on the lid, why not put them on the front? I’ve slapped it back on but for how long I just don’t know."

In total, 1,390 of the 48,000 stickers, around 2.9 per cent of those sent out by Wiltshire Council during phase one of the implementation of a paid-for garden waste collection service which started on June 15, have been re-issued.

A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said: “Around 67,000 households have currently signed up and all those who signed up before the initial deadline to avoid a break in service should now have received bin stickers that will identify which households have paid for the service.

“We are aware that a small number of customers have had a problem with the adhesiveness of stickers as a result of a small batch of the stickers being potentially faulty.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
