THE main railway line between Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa is closed in the London-bound direction while emergency work is carried out.

First Great Western statement said passengers for Chippenham should use the Westbury to Swindon shuttle service changing at Trowbridge.

Replacement road transport between Bath Spa and Swindon is also being organised as disruption is expected until 1.30pm today.

Despite the warm and sunny start to the morning the Met Office promises a turn in the sky's fortunes to a rainy, blustery day.

Clouds will begin to gather at around 9am, and from 11am to 6pm Swindon will be doused with heavy, blustery showers with westward gusts up to 19 miles per hour.

There is a risk of hail and thunder, but there may also be some sunny spells.  Top temperatures will be around 13C, but it will feel cooler.

Tonight, there will be some lingerering showers, but there will be no sign of frost, and the minimu temperatures will drop to 5C.

Earlier morning commuters are reminded to expect delays at Mallins Lane in Longcot on the B4508 due to ongoing roadworks.

There are also ongoing works affecting traffic both ways in Newth's Lane in Purton Stoke.

Those using the M4 eastbound should be aware of traffic queues at Junction 17, for Chippenham and Malmesbury while there is also congestion at Maidenhead and Wembley on the M4.

Meanwhile, the Highways Agency are calling for people's views after removing automated tweets about routine traffic congestion of less than 30 minutes.

Closer to home, north Swindon residents should now have their full power supply restored following an outage yesterday evening.  

Wiltshire Police's North Swindon Team reported on their Facebook page at around 8pm that all the traffic lights were back in full operation.

Around 2,000 Scottish and Southern Energy customers were affected by the fault in the main network, which occurred at 5pm.
