MORE than 260 cyclists tested their pedal power as they headed out on the inaugural Black Legend Sportive.

Setting off from the Hungerford start line at John O’Gaunt School, groups of friends and families took on the 45, 65 or 80-mile routes available, passing through Lambourn, the Marlborough Downs and the Combe Gibbet.

Riders were treated to beautiful blue skies and spring sunshine after a cool start to the day.

Chris Donald, event director, said: “We had such a fantastic turnout for the Black Legend Sportive, it truly was incredible.

"It’s important to us that our events are enjoyable to a range of different abilities so it was great to see cyclists of all capabilities from across the region turn up to try their hand at the sportive.”

“We would also like to thank our associate sponsor, Bikelux, who were such a great help in providing technical support and advice to riders before, during and after the event.

"We cannot wait to return to Hungerford in 2016 where we hope to make the event even bigger and better.”

The event is due to take place again next year on Sunday, March 20.  For full event information visit www.purplepatchrunning.com
