Revellers attending the rave at Rodbourne in Swindon in the early hours of the morning have told how they tried to break through the police cordon.

One 19-year-old from Basingstoke claimed he had suffered a broken hand and a cut to the head in a melee in the early hours of the morning at the River Ray industrial estate off Barnfield Road in Rodbourne.

He said he and some friends arrived around 3am and found police blocking the way into an empty unit on the estate.

He said he was unable to get in and was treated for his injuries by ambulance staff.

Another 21-year-old, also from Basingstoke, said he had managed to get through the cordon and got into the unit at 3am.

He said: "I can understand why the police are upset but we have got to get our kicks somewhere."

Another reveller, a 26-year-old who travelled to the rave from Luton, said thee were up to 200 people inside the unit at one point.

He said the partygoers ranged in age from 16 to around 45.

"We only came here to have some fun," he said. "It was all okay until the police came in."

Loud music is still blasting out from the empty unit but some bleary-eyed ravers are beginning to leave the site.

A convoy of around 15 cars had arrived at the unit at around 1am, quickly joined by up to 100 other party-goers. Police say many of the ravers are believed to be from the Thames Valley area and would have arranged to meet at the unit via social media or text message.

Revellers are usually unaware of the location of raves until the very last minute.
