Essential resurfacing work will be carried out next week on the junction between the M49 and the M4 near the Second Severn Crossing.

There will be full overnight closures on the M49 and lane closures on the M4 slip roads at junction 22 while the work is carried out.

One lane on the M4 exit slip road eastbound and westbound at Junction 22 and a full closure on the M49 in both directions will be in place between 8pm and 6am from the evening of Monday, November 24, until the morning of Friday, November 28.

Chris Pope, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “The surface on the roundabout at Junction 22 and the associated slip roads has come to the end of its working life and needs to be replaced.

“The work is being carried out overnight when traffic flows are at their lowest but road users are advised to plan ahead and allow longer for their journeys.”

Road users wanting to travel northbound on the M49 should take the M5 northbound instead to M5 junction 15 and join the M4 westbound at junction 20.

Traffic wishing to travel south should leave the M4 at junction 20 and then join the M5 southbound.
