Pensioners Doreen Milner and Stella Cruise have been selected to star in a national campaign to encourage more people to use the internet.

Mrs Milner, 78, and Mrs Cruse, 80, from Devizes, will be the face of Get Online Week which runs nationally from October 13 to 19 and will see their image used for the events adverts, posters and leaflets.

Mrs Milner and Mrs Cruse volunteered to star as models for the campaign after recently taking a beginners course in computing at The Learning Curve, an online centre in Melksham which runs courses at libraries across Wiltshire.

Mrs Milner said: “I can’t believe I’m the face of a national campaign. I never for a moment thought I’d be a model.”

Mrs Cruse added: “It has been a bit of a giggle, and if it inspires anyone else to get going with computers and the internet it was well worth it.”

The internet has opened a whole new world for pair who are also keen gardeners, as they are now able to access gardening tips at the click of a button.

“Stella and Doreen are a brilliant advert for getting online, because they’re just having so much fun with it,” said Helen Milner, chief executive of Tinder Foundation, the organisation behind the online centres and annual Get Online Week Campaign.

Tim Ward, chief executive of The Learning Curve, added: “Our charity aims to change lives through learning. We are delighted to see how much Doreen and Stella have benefited from completing the Get Online course.”

The Learning Curve is holding a free Get Online Week open day on Wednesday, October 15 from 10am to 2pm at its learning centre at Unit 3, Challeymead Business Park in Melksham.
