WILTSHIRE'S Police and Crime Commissioner has spoken out about the South Yorkshire PCC's decision to stay in post despite being accused of failing to act on warnings of sexual abuse of children.

Shaun Wright has resigned from the Labour party but has failed to leave his post as PCC despite calls from the home secretary, Theresa May, and his own party to resign over the scandal.

Angus Macpherson, the Wiltshire PCC, said: “If Shaun Wright believes that he retains the confidence of the people of South Yorkshire, he is entitled to stay in post.

"If he has lost that confidence  I find it difficult to see how he can continue to exercise the powers of Commissioner without doing damage to both his own office and to public confidence in the Police.”
