A Remembrance service was held by the North East Wiltshire Scouts Council to mark the centenary anniversary of the First World War.

The event recognised the 42 Scouts and leaders who had fallen during the war and was held on the grounds of their Marlborough headquarters before their annual general meeting.

Serving and former Scouts both young and old were joined by the mayor of Marlborough Marian Hannaford-Dobson and her husband Stewart Dobson.

The service opened with prayers by the Rev David Maurice and the Last Post was played by Anthony Palmer, of the Savernake Scout Group, on a bugle given to the Scouts by the Free family 100 years ago.

The names of the fallen were read out and there was a minute’s silence before the service was bought to a close with a rendition of Reveille.

District chairman Peter Povey said: “It being the centenary of the Great War we decided that we must honour the fallen.

“A lot of members of the community have commented on how impressed they were that the young Scouts honoured the soldiers in this way.”
