Blaze pub to be closed until further notice

A HISTORIC pub will be closed into next week after a fire broke out in its roof.

About 50 diners and staff fled the Lexden Crown, in London Road, on Wednesday after the blaze broke out above the kitchen.

Although firefighters contained the fire to the kitchen, the pub management has decided to close the pub until further notice.

Harriet Baker, office manager, said: “The fire was caught early and they were able to contain it to the kitchen but we have taken the decision to close until further notice.

“It is an old building and we want to make sure everything is fine before we open again.”
Bookings for this weekend have been cancelled.

“As a team we are all very close so we’ve all been in trying to get things sorted,” Miss Baker added.

“We’ve been in cleaning things and we just want to re-open as soon as we can.”
