Excitement builds as fans begin journey to Wembley

THERE is an air of excitement in the town this morning as thousands of football fans head to Wembley.

While the sun was still rising, a sea of red and white could be seen along County Road as fans made their way to the ground.

Decked out in red and white scarves, shirts, wigs and hats, supporters waved banners, blew horns and whistles ahead of Town's clash with Chesterfield this afternoon.

The majority of fans were optimistic that Town would claim victory, with many predicting a 3-1 final score.

Des and Jackie Jackson from Redhouse were among the fans travelling by coach from the County Ground.

Des said: "I'm feeling a bit apprehensive because it is a one off game and anything can happen, but I still think the final score will be 3-1. That is what I am hoping for anyway.

"It's going to be a great day with great atmosphere."

Shame some saw fit to blare car horns early this morning!!! Ok you're off to Wembley but there's some of us that aren't and don't need to listen to a barrage of car horns at each other first thing on a sunday morning.

In what way has STFC's success had a negative impact on the town?

It has provided a bit of excitement for the fans and had little or no effect on everyone else.

each to their own swindonmum.

Just because we live in Swindon doesn't mean "everyone" are followers of football. No probs with those that do, but not blarring horns in the early hours

How times change. 22 years ago the Adver put the phone against the radio so that I could listen to the last few minutes of the game. This time I get to watch it on an 8 foot screen in a New York bar, come on you reds.

swindonmum & commonasmuck - bit unfair just coz you don't agree with their opinions!! Not everyone is behind Swindon town.

My family enjoy football but when you work 6 days a week Sunday is the only chance for a lie in!! 7am this morning in my area was a tad early, even for us footie fans!!

I think its a bit harsh that Bodinhasnt got a spot on the bench today. He has been in and around the squad for the past few months and I think deserved a place. If he is injured then my case is closed, but I dont think he is.

Oh well a normal result from anything to do with Swindon. A good build up, lots of talk but let down in the end.

I'm not a football fan personally, but it would have been great to have some good news for the town.

I was lucky enough to get an aerial photo of the County Ground ahead of the Swindon v Wigan victory, which has now gone into the town archive.

Not impressed by early morning car horns either, but it was probably high spirits, as opposed to deliberate aggravation.

If it was karma, perhaps there will be something better to celebrate in the near future.

Swindon could certainly use some good press.

On the balance of play it was the right result. It could have been 2-0 earlier in the game were it it not for an easy miss.
