ENTRIES are beginning to arrive for Pewsey’s carnival procession set for Saturday, September 17 after two weeks of carnival activities.

This year the carnival committee has relaxed regulations which stated that all entries had to be submitted two weeks before the parade.

It has also eased its strict no-alcohol rule that included a total ban on alcoholic drinks in the assembly field.

Instead the 2011 programme states: “All forms of alcoholic beverage are prohibited to participants whilst the procession is in progress.

“Everyone is welcome to bring a picnic and drinks for before the procession starts.”

The no-alcohol rule was introduced after concerns over the levels of excess drinking.

Police and stewards will again confiscate alcoholic drinks from under 18s.

Entries for the procession can be until 4pm on the day, said carnival spokesperson Liz Boden.

Ms Boden said: “There is a new float class for the illuminated procession.

“The community and beginners class (Class 5) is for those who have never entered or are previous walking characters stepping up to a motorised class.”

Procession entry forms are available from Martins, Next Door, China Rose, Cossors Shop, The Coopers Arms and The Royal Oak or from the Pewsey carnival website.

The procession, which leaves the assembly field at Little Anne in Milton Lilbourne Road at 7.30pm, will have four extra bands thanks to a £1,000 contribution from Pewsey Running Club.
