All eyes will be on the skies this weekend as some of the world’s most impressive aircraft take part in the Royal International Air Tattoo.

Among the planes at the show, which runs at RAF Fairford on Saturday and Sunday, will be the state-of-the-art C295 Airborne Early Warning and Control demonstrator, which made its maiden flight on June 7 from Seville, in Spain.

It will arrive at the airfield with a mushroom-shaped rotodome demonstrator on its roof, part of ongoing flight trials to test the aircraft’s aerodynamics.

This summer’s Air Tattoo, which will be marking its 40th anniversary, will also include a rare display of the Eurofighter Typhoon’s agility and engine power with a full weapon load.

BAE Systems chief test pilot for combat, Mark Bowman, will demonstrate IPA5’s significant weapon carriage and manoeuvrability while still able to show carefree handling.

In addition, the public will have access to a full-scale replica of the world’s most advanced, new generation multi-role combat jet, including full weapon display.

The RAF will also have a Typhoon on display in the static aircraft park. Mr Bowman said: “I hope the observer will get a real sense of why Typhoon is not only at the forefront of world combat aviation, but also acknowledge the role of European technology, engineering and ingenuity in producing this awesome aircraft.”

Other attractions include the Animal Bike Tour, a fusion of the country’s legendary top mountain bike stars, including former world champion and Guinness Book of Record’s holder Martyn Ashton and international dirt jump star Blake Sampson.

Tickets, which must be bought in advance, from www.airtattoo.com or call 0800 107 1940. All accompanied children under 16 go free.
