Swindon Town have announced that Paolo Di Canio has agreed to become the club's new manager.

The 42-year-old Italian, who was a fan favourite at West Ham United in the Premier League, will finish his media commitments in his home country before flying to the UK on Monday to complete paperwork and be formally introduced at the County Ground.

Di Canio, who made over 500 appearances in Italy, Scotland and England, will mark his first foray into management by taking charge of the Robins following their relegation to League Two.

Speaking on the club's official website, the Swindon board said: "The Board of STFC is committed to returning to League 1 at the earliest opportunity and is confident that Paolo will build a team with a new level of passion, pride and professionalism to ensure that this goal is achieved."
