An inquest jury is expected to retire today to consider its verdict in the case of a new mother who died following a hospital blunder.
Mayra Cabrera, 30, died shortly after giving birth to son Zac, who survived, at Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, on May 11 2004.
During the failed bid to resuscitate her, a bag of Bupivacaine, a potent anaesthetic for epidural use only, was found to have been attached by mistake to an intravenous drip feeding into a vein in her hand, the month-long inquest at Trowbridge has heard.
The birth was at 8.14am but by 9am, shortly after the error, Mrs Cabrera began to fit. At 10.27am she was certified dead.
Midwife Marie To is alleged to have attached the Bupivacaine. She denied having done so in evidence.
Swindon & Marlborough NHS Trust admitted liability but, following a police inquiry, the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge anyone.
