Police nab drug deal suspect

Quick work by three police officers has resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old Swindon man on suspicion of possession with the intent to supply drugs.

The officers were patrolling the Parks area last Friday following intelligence that drugs were being supplied from a local address.

Two officers patrolling in a car saw a man known to them leaving a property and heading towards a parked van and they promptly identified themselves as police officers. The suspect placed something in his mouth but officers made him spit it out to reveal what is believed to be Class A drugs.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and a search made of a nearby address. He was then taken to Gablecross Police Station where he was interviewed and was subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The officers involved in the arrest were Sergeant Maddy Lynch, Police Constable Ben Collier and Police Constable William O'Sullivan.

Inspector Mark Sellers said: "This was an excellent bit of police work where three officers were able to act promptly on some intelligence we received to arrest someone we believe to be supplying drugs to people not only in the Parks area but throughout town.

"Through this arrest we have managed to disrupt the supply of drugs in the town. We are committed to tackling the supply and use of illicit drugs in Swindon and this arrest demonstrates our determination.

Anyone with information on the supply of drugs in Swindon should pass this on to police so that we can continue to deal with the problem."
