TWITTER accounts, including that of the Great Western Hospital, have been hacked by a group claiming to support the Turkish government.
The hack resulted in the accounts sending tweets condemning 'Nazi Germany' and 'Nazi Holland' and spreading propaganda relating to a Turkish referendum that aims to give new sweeping powers to the president.
The tweets, which began with a swastika, were linked to a YouTube video entitled: "Nazi Germany, Nazi Holland, see you April 16" - the date of the Turkish referendum.
The GWH tweeted in response: "Morning everyonone. If you saw some odd tweets from us during the night, don't worry, we had a few security issues but it's all sorted now."
Other accounts hacked included those belonging to Amnesty Interntiona, Unicef USA, the Atlanta Police Department, French politician Alain Juppe and the Department of Health.
The European Parliament was also affected tweeted later: "Good morning. We briefly lost control of this account earlier, but everything is now back to normal."
A Twitter spokesperson said they had "quickly located the source which was limited to third party app. We removed its permissions immediately."
Over the weekend, Dutch police used water cannon, horses and dogs to break up a pro-Turkey demonstration, some activists throwing bottles and stones.
It followed the stopping of Turkish ministers campaigning among the Turkish community in the Netherlands in favour of giving the Turkish president more powers in the referendum.
The Great Western Hospital has been approached for comment and the 'rogue' tweet has been removed.
