TWO men have been charged with causing death by dangerous driving eight months after a fatal crash beside the A4 near Savernake Hospital.

Alexander May, 27, of Swans Close, Ramsbury, and Jordan Blake, 24, from Congleton, Cheshire, were arrested at the scene after Swindon resident Jane Thompson, 54, was hit by a car as she walked along the footpath beside the A4 on June 9.

The pair have been released on conditional bail and are due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on February 24.

The incident happened when two cars, a blue BMW 328 and a yellow Seat Leon Cupra, were travelling towards Froxfield when the BMW left the carriageway and collided with Ms Thompson.

Ms Thompson, the receptionist to the neighbourhood health team based at Savernake Hospital, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed overnight while police carried out their investigation.

When it was announced that she had died, Wiltshire Police said her family decided not to release a tribute or photograph as she was a very private person and would not have liked any press attention.
