THE Russians are coming for a very special male voice choir performance in Broad Hinton.

Quintet the Hermitage Ensemble, who hail from St Petersburg, will perform a concert at St Peter ad Vincula church on April 1.

The all-male orthodox choir are all professional soloists, some from the prestigious Kirov opera and their music evokes memories of the traditional Russian folk music.

Church warden Sally Cartwright said the upcoming performance had struck a chord with the community.

“People are very much looking forward to it, it is something unique that shows a bit of the world.

“It’s a spine-tingling performance, that very deep bass is something a bit different that we don’t see in the UK, we’re all really looking forward to it.

“There’s sombre chants, full-blooded joyous folk songs, it’s unlike anything anyone has heard before and it’s something that has already gathered a lot of interest from the community."

Broad Hinton is the latest concert on a whistle-stop tour of the UK for the Hermitage Ensemble.

Choir fan Sally said she had first heard of the Hermitage Ensemble through word-of mouth.

“They had gathered a lot of interest online and I had a contact of mine get in touch with them and they were delighted to be able to perform for us,” she said.

The concert will start at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from Sally Cartwright on 01793 731050, or sally.cartwright@broadhinton.org.uk
