A 32-year-old taxi driver was assaulted in the early hours in Swindon town centre.
Police said the victim, who was driving a black Hackney cab, was involved in an altercation with a man in the area of Corporation Street and Carfax Street at 12.30am on Sunday.
The taxi driver was struck with a heavy object causing serious injuries. He was taken to the Great Western Hospital, Swindon, where he was treated and later released.
A 15-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and was released on police bail.
Police are seeking witnesses to the assault or who may have come to the aid of the victim to contact them on 0845 408 7000.
