A LORRY left the M4 near junction 16 this morning and went down an embankment.

The South Western Ambulance service was called at just after 6.20am.

A spokesman said a 35-year-old man was taken to the Great Western Hospital for treatment to a back injury.

Traffic was not delayed by the crash on the motorway eastbound, near the turnoff for Swindon West and Royal Wootton Bassett although the hard shoulder was closed while the lorry was removed.

Yesterday drivers had to contend with Swindon's Wootton Bassett Road being closed for more than eight hours after a lorry hit the railway bridge there
