DAUGHTERS of engineer Mark Aziz, who died in a road crash near Devizes, have paid tribute to their much loved father.

Keeley, 24, and Serran, 21, this week remembered a man who made their childhood magical with surprise gifts and trips to the park.

They were left grief stricken after police had to break the news of their father's death while they were at work on Thursday morning.

Keeley, who works at Rangebourne pet shop in New Park Street, said: "I had heard there had been a crash on the road between Beckhampton and Devizes from customers who said the road was blocked.

"Then the police arrived at the shop. I didn't know what to do."

Her newly graduated sister who works in Costa Coffee was then also told about the accident which happened on the A361 at about 6.30am on a straight stretch of road when Mr Aziz's blue Nissan Micra was involved in a collision with a van.

Mr Aziz, 57, of Parkfields, Devizes, worked nights for Retrac in Swindon and was returning home when the accident happened.

His two daughters lived with their father, who is separated from their mother Maxine, along with their boyfriends Ollie Bartlett and Michael Benstead.

Serran said: "They have both been so supportive of us. I don't know what we would do without them."

They both described their father as a fun dad who loved taking them to the park every Sunday when they were small.

Keeley said: "All the parks in the area were colour coded with blue for Victoria Park in Bath, yellow for one in Swindon and red for somewhere else. We used to get excited about choosing where we would go."

The sisters also remember their father leaving little presents outside their bedroom doors when he went to work.

Keeley said: "He used to work long hours but he wanted us to know he was thinking about us. He used to say a fairy brought them. We also used to go to the pantomime at the Wyvern in Swindon every Christmas Eve. Christmas was a big deal for us."

Mr Aziz, who grew up in London first lived in Broad Town when he moved to Wiltshire. The family moved to Devizes 15 years ago and the girls went first to Bishops Canning Primary and then to Devizes School.

Their father was a keen motorcyclist for many years but had given up riding bikes. He was also devoted to his two border collie dogs.

Wiltshire police said the road was closed for about four hours after the accident north of the Bishops Cannings/Blacklands crossroads.

A spokesman said: "The male car driver sadly died at the scene despite medical help. The male van driver was taken to the Great Western Hospital.

"A post-mortem examination will now be carried out and a file will be prepared for H M Coroner for Wiltshire.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Aziz at this very sad time."

"We are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where details can be left anonymously."

Funeral arrangements are yet to be made but details will be available from DJ Bewley on 01380 728008.
