Three rare and precious England caps won by Swindon Town legend Harold Fleming when the Robins were a non-League club were sold for £540 each at Bonhams in Chester.
Before Tuesday's auction, experts accurately forecast that the red and purple caps would sell for between £500 and £800 each.
They were awarded to Wiltshire-born Fleming for international games against Wales 1910 and 13, and Scotland in 1914.
Fleming was born in 1887, and joined Town in 1907. He also played Minor Counties cricket for Wiltshire.
He was an inside right who was famed for his powerful shot and strong running.
Altogether he won 11 England caps and remains one of Swindon's all-time greats. He gave his name to Fleming Way in the town centre.
Fleming died in 1955.
