Pet Shop Boys coming to town

The Pet Shop Boys are coming to Swindon The Pet Shop Boys are coming to Swindon

East End boys and West End girls in Swindon better get out their dancing shoes.

They are going to need them when the Pet Shop Boys play at the Oasis leisure centre in the summer.

Tickets for the gig, on Thursday, June 7, go on sale at 9am on Friday.

The concert is one of three extra dates the duo, made up of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, have added to their UK tour following the sell-out of other venues.

The Pet Shop Boys got together in 1981 and have been setting the charts alight with their brand of electro pop ever since.

Their hits include It's A Sin, Go West, West End Girls and a cover of Elvis Presley's You Were Always On My Mind.

Fan Tracey Springer said it is great news the group are coming to Swindon. "I'm very excited that they are performing at the Oasis.

"I've been a huge fan since the 80s," said the 34-year-old, of Moredon. "I've seen them play lots of gigs before but seeing them in my hometown will be extra special. I'm sure it will be a sell-out gig and I'll be on the phone first thing Friday morning."

The Swindon gig is a standing concert and has the capacity to hold 3,000 people. The duo is the latest in a long line of top acts to book dates at the council-owned Oasis.

Those who have already played include Razorlight, The Zutons, Toploader, the Scissor Sisters and Kings of Leon.

Waiting in the wings to wow their fans in the coming weeks are Simon Webbe, Lemar, McFly, Paolo Nutini, Russell Watson and the Kings of Leon, who are returning for a second show.

Justin Tomlinson, Swindon council's cabinet member for culture, leisure and recreation, said the town's pulling power was going from strength to strength.

"It is fantastic news that Pet Shop Boys are the latest high-profile act to be confirmed to appear at The Oasis," he said.

Tickets cost £26.50 plus booking fee and are available by calling 01793 445401 or by logging on to www.swindon.gov.uk
