Drug dealers held in custody

Two men have been remanded in custody after admitting being involved in dealing hard drugs in Swindon.

Streby Margai and Shawn Grant have been warned they face lengthy jail terms for their part in the peddling of heroin and crack cocaine.

And a third man, Adam Woods, also admitted his part in the operation which involved the street dealing of drugs.

Chris Quinlan, prosecuting, told Swindon crown court Margai, 24, and Grant, 21, were involved in a seven month conspiracy to sell the drugs.

He said the men were involved in the business of the heron and crack cocaine from October 1, 2005 thought to April 29, last year.

Woods, 18, admitted taking part for a three week period in October 2005 when he was dealing drugs on behalf of Grant, he said.

Mr Quinlan said "The case is that the three defendants were involved in the commercial supply of heroin and crack cocaine on the streets of this town for some months.

"They now accept their involvement in the commercial supply of heroin and crack cocaine for money on a commercial basis involving the supply of these drugs and others for a period of seven months.

"Mr Woods qualifies that and his involvement was for a little under a month."

He said the case was A joint enterprise in which all three were involved.' Margai, of Pentonville Road, Kings Cross, London, but also living at Davis House, on Turl Street, Grant, of Walter Close, Swindon, and Woods of Gable Close, Abbey Meads, all admitted two counts of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

The guilty pleas were entered after the jury had been sworn in and then discharged before the case was opened.

Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case for a month so pre-sentence reports can be prepared on Grant and Woods.

But he warned Margai and Grant that they faced the prospect of lengthy jail terms and remanded them in custody to March 30. He released Woods on bail.

The police have also launched financial investigations into the three men in a bid to recover any proceeds of crime.
