8:36am Wednesday 21st February 2007 in Swindon By Raeanne Nightingale
A con artist tricked an elderly couple out of cash after he pretended to be a water official to enter their home.
The distraction burglar told the pensioners, in their 70s, that he needed to come into their house in Cumberland Road, Swindon to access their water system at around 3pm yesterday.
While he did so, a second person searched the house and stole money.
Swindon Police are now looking for anyone who may have seen any suspicious people or vehicles in the area at that time.
A spokesman added: "We remind all residents to request ID from callers and refuse entry to anyone who cannot provide it."
Anyone with information relating to this crime should call the crime targeting team on 01793 507912.
