The new £16.3m flyover at Commonhead was open to rush-hour traffic this morning.
The northbound section of the road, which was due to start taking traffic on Thursday, was finally opened last night.
The opening was delayed due to a problem with safety fencing. The southbound carriageway will open tonight.
A 40mph speed limit will be in place as work will continue on the flyover until March.
The new flyover carries the A419 through traffic over the Commonhead Roundabout, providing a direct route for longer distance traffic and reducing congestion for local traffic using the roundabout.
The existing traffic lights on the Commonhead Roundabout will be removed when the flyover opens.
