Duke to visit canal beam engines

His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester is to visit Crofton beam engines near Pewsey on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

The Duke is due to visit the attraction on June 16 in celebration of 200 years operation of the Boulton and Watt engine - the oldest beam engine in the world still able to do its original job.

Crofton Beam Engines will be holding the bi-centenary celebrations over the weekend of June 16 and 17 and the organisers are delighted that HRH Duke of Gloucester will be their guest of honour.

The Duke will be visiting Crofton between 4pm and 5pm on the day when he will tour the pumping station with its two coal-fired steam engines in operation and unveil a plaque commemorating the occasion.
