GEORGE Gordon is the man who thinks about Christmas all year round. For the last 23 years he has helped raise thousands of pounds through the Burbage Christmas Tree Sale and Market.

He has been named Local Hero of the Year in recognition of his work at the Wiltshire Life annual awards ceremony.

Mr Gordon, 47, has been the main organiser of the event for the last 11 years which has become a traditional part of the Christmas festivities for families in the area. Hundreds of trees are sold and 50 stalls are set up in December, raising £20,000 for community projects last year alone.

He has shared his win with the volunteers who help run the event. Over 70 people gave up their time for the good cause weekend in 2017.

Picking up his award, Mr Gordon said: “Talking to the judging panel it was evident that they were impressed by the number of people across our community engaged in the Burbage Christmas Tree Sale, the fact that we have sustained it over 23 years and achieved growth in the range of activities, visitor numbers and financial results.

"Thank you to everyone who helps to run the sale and to all our stall holders and customers for their loyal support over many years.”
