YOUNG footballers in Pewsey can't wait to get on the pitch after the youth club's new pavilion was officially opened by the parish council.

Around 350 former and current players, sponsors and supporters gathered at the Pewsey Vale FC site on Wilcot Road for the ribbon cutting ceremony which will now be used by youth football teams for children aged between five and 18.

The £50,000 makeover will see facilities relocate from two porta cabins into premises which boats a new kitchen, equipment store building and a car park for 20 cars.

Dan Flach, chairman at PVYFC said: "We are so happy to have been able to get this far thanks predominantly to funding allocated by Pewsey Parish Council from Wiltshire Council. Our players and parents have waited many years and they now have a facility that they can be proud of and which I have no doubt will enhance their playing and supporting experience at the club.

"It has been a great privilege to be able to assist the team of volunteers here in getting the project through to completion and I look forward to seeing the club go from strength to strength."

Pewsey Parish Council footed the majority of the bill and Peter Deck, head of the council's planning committee, was given a grand tour when the building opened on December 15.
