POWERCUTS in Pewsey High Street caused by a lorry striking electric cables have been resolved, after homes spent three and a half hours without power.

The incident caused power cuts in 63 homes in and around the High Street, including Easterton Lane.

The power cut was caused by a lorry damaging a pole, knocking the cables and dragging them away from their fixtures.

The lorry also damaged a house and a parked car and police were called to the scene as traffic began to build up.

The driver of the lorry was identified and reported for failing to stop and careless driving.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman confirmed that he would now be interviewed under caution following the incident.

The spokesman said: "Officers and the Electricity board attended and made the area safe, and following enquiries the driver of the lorry was identified and reported for failing to stop and careless driving."

A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said: "Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) was alerted to a power cut in Pewsey High Street at 6pm on Wednesday after a pole was damaged.

"63 customers were affected with all supplies restored by 9.30pm.”

"SSEN would like to apologise to its customers for any inconvenience caused and thanks them for their patience while our engineers worked to safely restore their supply.”

The clean up process has now begun in Pewsey, after debris was scattered across the road from the lorry, causing delays on Wednesday night.
