WEARY golfers at Upavon Golf Club can enjoy a bit of a break by the 18th hole as Whitehall Garden Centre donated a bench for players to take a quick break.

Senior member at the club Brian Sawyer contacted the garden centre a few weeks ago, asking if the club could have a bench for people waiting to play on the last hole.

And on Tuesday, the £265 Bramblecrest bench was unveiled much to the delight of the club and Mr Sawyer.

"This was a lovely thing for them to do and it looks wonderful. It is a great addition to the course," he said.

"Sometimes when you get to the last hole, which is quite a short one which means queues can build up, you have to wait a bit for the players ahead and the view of the countryside is just lovely so I thought that people could enjoy a bit of a rest and take in the view across the valley. Mr Self was very keen to help and for that I and the club are very grateful."

The club, in Douglas Avenue, has more than 600 members.

"The beautiful 18th hole looks out onto the countryside so it is a lovely spot to have a bench and wait for the golfers ahead," said Chloe Swift, head of marketing at Whitehall Garden Centres.

"Our director Peter Self was happy to help the club and they were very grateful for our donation. Whitehall are passionate about support community activities and charities and this definitely falls into that category."
