PEWSEY Primary School pupils dodged, ducked, dipped, dived and dodged their way to raise more hundreds of pounds from a charity dodgeball tournament.

For most of Thursday, pupils from all year groups did battle in the inter-school competition on their astroturf pitches to fundraise for the British Heart Foundation.

The teams, numbering between eight to 10, were sponsored for every time they hit an opposing player in what proved to be a rather sore but very enjoyable day.

Year 6 teacher Jonathan Carter said: "It was a really great day for all of the children and all of us. We had quite a lot of fun seeing them hurl the balls at each other but there was so much enthusiasm and eagerness to raise as much as they could for a great cause.

"Everyone had a fantastic time and they seemed to enjoy it more and more as the day went on. They teamed up well together and got better at catching, dodging and basically playing dodgeball.

"We have never done a dodgeball thing like this before but we may do it again as it was so much fun. All the teams were cheering each other on, it was a really good positive atmosphere.

"I think if the teachers got involved it might have been chaos, we might not have made it out of there."

The exact amount of funds have not been calculated yet but they hope it will exceed the £200 mark they raised for the charity from their sponsored skipping event a couple of years ago.
