IN memory of former Preshute Primary pupil Bobby Cox, who died at the age of five from a brain tumour, more than £800 was raised from a St Francis School raffle in aid of John Radcliffe Children’s hospital.

Last week the Pewsey school's headmaster David Sibson made a special presentation to Bobby's sister and Year 6 pupil Phoebe Cox, which she will now hand over the the Oxford hospital, who treated Bobby during his cancer struggle.

A total of £802 will be handed over to the hospital, which operated on and cared for Bobby when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, thanks to the hugely successful raffle that The Friends of St Francis organised.

Headmaster, David Sibson, said: “Every year the Friends of St Francis nominate and support a different charity and we are delighted that this time we are supporting the Cox family’s fundraising efforts and donating to The John Radcliffe Children’s Hospital in memory of Bobby.”

Doctors said that Bobby, who was in Year 1 at Preshute Primary School at the time, would live for another five years but the tumour was very aggressive and spread to his spinal cord and other areas of his brain.

He died two and a half weeks later on July 2, 2014.

Bobby’s parents Harriet and Paul Cox, who both work at Marlborough College, have pledged to raise £20,000 for the children’s hospital to help improve the playroom on Robbins Ward, which is where Bobby was cared for.

They are organising Bobby’s Triathlon, a fundraising triathlon event in Marlborough on May 28. To donate or for more information visit www.facebook.com/harrietandpaulcox/
