MORE than 2,500 people poured into Burbage this weekend in what proved to be another hugely successful edition of the Burbage Christmas tree sale and market.

This is the 22nd time the event has been held on the green at the All Saints Church, Eastcourt, and it did not disappoint as over 700 trees were sold and around £15,000 was raised for the All Saints Church, Burbage Primary School and the village hall.

The market and sale were bolstered by over 70 volunteers, one of whom was MP Claire Perry, and also featured more than 50 Christmas stalls, local choirs, activities and refreshments.

Organiser George Gordon said: "Once again it was a fantastically successful weekend in what is our biggest event of the year, and it really delivered.

"It is a wonderful community event, with a brilliant atmosphere. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and it really is a pleasure to be a part of for the last 10 years.

"We have become well known for the great atmosphere, excellent Christmas Market and quality of our trees. We had firs, pines, spruces, cedars, cypress', you name it.

"Each and every year our team of volunteers do an exceptional job and this year was no different. We enjoyed a nice get together on Monday to thank them for their stellar efforts."

Local children's author Barbara Townsend was also at the market, selling her fifth book, "Stonehenge-Luke and the Bluestone", which is about one of the world's most iconic monuments.

This capped off a busy 12 months for the 63-year-old who launched her fourth book "Old Harry Rock and Tales of the Jurassic Coast" last December on top of producing a second edition of her popular book, "The Savernake Big Belly Oak" in 2016.

Local Scouts, Cubs and Beavers were selling nestboxes they had made at the market and Burbage Brownies and the Savernake Forest Scout Group are got involved.
