TO commemorate the service of the Bouverie Hall clerk, who had served in her role for nearly 30 years, a special presentation was thrown at a Christmas craft fair on Saturday.

Since 1989, Esme Drinnan has worked at the venue, North Street, Pewsey, but that all came to an end on October 31, after she retired from her role as booking clerk and caretaker.

To recognise her 27 years of service, friends, family and locals gathered for a presentation at the packed fair to thank her for her work as well as naming the upstairs meeting room, the Drinnan room, after her and her late husband Peter who used to be chairman there.

"It has been a very enjoyable and busy time, with a lot of special memories but it is the right time to step down," said Mrs Drinnan, of Meadow Court.

"There have been so many wonderful occasions here over the years, with some brilliant events. I was very touched by it all, it was a lovely gesture.

"I knew they had something planned by but I did not expect this. I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support. It has been an enjoyable time here."

As part of her job description, she would make all the hall bookings, doing the invoices, showing people around the venue and all sorts of things to make sure everything ran smoothly.

"We are very grateful for all the work she has done over the years, her commitment has been wonderful," said Cheryl Underhill, chairman of the hall's management committee.

"She was very touched by us naming the meeting room after her and her husband Peter. It reflects the stellar work they did here and is a nice way to remember their contribution here."

Dan Flach will take over from Mrs Drinnan.
