HUNDREDS of spectators lined the streets of Pewsey to watch the annual carnival wheelbarrow event.

Brightly coloured and decorated ensembles flooded the streets of the village on Thursday (September 15) evening, all showing up to take part in the colourful event.

Teams paraded their carefully made floats down the streets, much to the enjoyment of the people lined up along the route. From Finding Dory to Suicide Squad, each float delivered a unique and entertaining theme.

Dave Major, organiser of the event and member of the carnival committee, commented: "We had 176 teams take part this year, more than we had last year, all of them have done an amazing job with their floats. The atmosphere is always really good for the wheelbarrow event. You can see all of the hard work everyone has put in to make this evening so special."

All of the entries gathered outside of the Bouverie Hall in North Street before making their way to the start point.

Nick Wood, president of the carnival committee, said: "It looked great, I have been working since 10am making sure everything is in place. It always looks very good when everyone gathers for the event. It is great to see the effort that is put in for it."

The cheers coming from the crowd were just a small indication of the fun everyone was having watching the teams parade down the streets.

Darren Goddard, 42, a former Pewsey resident of Broadfields and member of the Bee Gees float, said: "We all meet up and take part every year, this is the 25th year we have been doing it together. I live in London and my other friends have moved away, but we always meet up to take part."

Even the volunteers, who helped to keep everything in order, agreed that the wheelbarrow event is one of the best nights over the carnival schedule.

Keith Lang, 62, of Rushall Road in North Newnton, said: "All of the floats and costumes are so good, you can really tell how much everyone has been working at them. It is a really good evening and everyone seems to have a lot of fun, everybody is in high spirits and enjoys themselves."
