TEAMS of people, dressed in whacky and wonderful costumes, flooded the streets of Pewsey over the weekend to take part in the carnival’s four-legged event.

Organisers of the carnival events were thrilled that 58 teams entered this year’s four-legged event on Saturday (September 10) evening. With people dressed up as everything from nuns to Baywatch –styled lifeguards, everyone was in the carnival spirit.

Nick Wood, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “We had 58 teams this year which was a great improvement on last year where we had 33 teams. The numbers were very good indeed. I was doing the road closure signs but I eventually got the chance to watch it, some of the costumes were brilliant, but some choose not to dress up as much and take it more seriously.”

After the positive turnout for the four-legged event, the organisers are excited about the possible increase in popularity for the upcoming wheelbarrow event, which is set to take place on Thursday (September 15) evening.

“The wheelbarrow event is for more spectacular for people who are watching and for the participants. I expect we will get about 200 teams take part in it on Thursday evening,” added Mr Wood.

Other members of the committee were also thrilled to see such a large turnout for the event, thankful the weather cleared up by the evening.

Dave Major, member of the committee, said: “It went very well, we had such a good turnout. We moved it to the Saturday from the Thursday this year and it seemed to work very well. One group was made up of three teams called The Emojis, they all looked very good. So now it is on to the wheelbarrow event.”

The wheelbarrow event will be taking place on Thursday (September 15) from 7pm, starting at North Street car park by the Bouverie Hall.
