THE FIRST ever Woodborough Social Club pageant took place over the weekend, welcoming families to take part in an afternoon of fun.

Organised by Josephine Connolly and the social club committee, the pageant on Saturday saw 45 people visit the club.

Miss Connolly, 30, of Cossor Road, said: “I recently joined the committee with my mum and wanted to do something for families in the area so I came up with the idea of the pageant. We went round and asked businesses for prizes for the raffle and ended up with 44 prizes, which included family photo shoots. Everyone was so generous. We ended up raising over £200 which we will spend on family events at the club.”

Three age categories were set up for the children to join, with three overall winners walking away with a trophy and a sash.

“Out of the three age categories the winners were Ava-Mae Pyle, who won the baby to age three category, Oscar Binning, who won the four to seven and Freya Kimber who won the eight to ten. All the winners were given a sash, a trophy and a box of fun activities. The other children who entered also got a medal for taking part,” added Miss Connolly.

Judging by the success of the first ever pageant, Miss Connolly has said that she would be very interested in running another one in the future.

“Maybe this time next year we will do another, I do want to keep doing family days in the village. The weather was so lovely and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves. The entertainer Jacko did some magic for the kids and we had music and a bouncy castle from Lee Stone, I am really grateful for their help,” she said.

The money raised from the afternoon will go to the family fun days at the social club which takes place every Friday.
