MANY of Pewsey Vale’s iconic features have been captured in an impressive mural created by students with the help of artist Sylvie Clayden and Brigit Graystone.

It was unveiled on Friday at Pewsey railway station where it will be on display for commuters and passengers to admire.

It features Pewsey’s rolling hills, the Kennet and Avon Canal, the Heritage Centre and one of Wiltshire’s White Horses, among other things.

Pewsey Vale students created the ideas for the colourful mural and were guided by Ms Clayden who brought the three concepts of heritage, activity and nature together and Ms Graystone, formerly of Pewsey Vale School, did most of the graphic work.

Ms Clayden and youngsters from Pewsey Vale School presented the mural to the station on Friday, where they were joined by MP and Rail Minister Claire Perry and Great Western Railway station manager Alison Stone.

Speaking on Friday Ms Perry said: "It gives me great pleasure to unveil this wonderful piece of artwork at Pewsey station today. As you know there a lot of good things happening at this station including a new footbridge and the new trains.

"This railway is a lifeline for our community and it is brilliant that passengers will now be welcomed at the station with this fantastic mural. Everyone who has been involved should be extremely proud."

Alison Stone, from GWR, added: "The mural is a wonderful depiction of Pewsey Vale; bright and vibrant, and I am sure our passengers will agree how much it will add to the station environment.

"We recognise that the station at Pewsey is vital to the national and local economy and it is great to see it recognised in this way.”
