THE potential closure of Everleigh Recycling Centre by Wiltshire Council in a bid to save £65,000 is still up in the air and troubling residents in and around Pewsey.

The topic was raised at Pewsey Area Board on Monday by Colin Gale from Rushall Parish Council.

He said: “I would like to think on an equal level playing field that all of the other recycling centres were up for grabs and not just picking on one community.

“They have cut some of the site times but as I understand Salisbury’s hours have gone back to where they were because of the problems on Salisbury Business Park and the building up of traffic.”

Coun Stuart Wheeler said: “They [cabinet] are looking at it seriously, there will be consultations and they are looking at the usage of various sites and I have a fairly active postbag on the subject it would be fair to say, which I am passing on.”

“Everything is up in the air at the moment because we are all looking to make savings,” added councillor Jerry Kunkler.

“So there will have to be a consultation on this. It is challenging. It is currently operating as normal and we will be doing our best to see what we can do to lobby it to keep it open.”
