POLICE are urging residents not to be tricked by a potential phone scam after a Pewsey pensioner was targeted but was wise enough not to fall for it.

At around 4pm on Thursday, the 80-year-old woman was at home with her husband when she received a phone call to her landline.

The man on the other end of the phone claimed he was calling from New Scotland Yard and informed her he had a arrested a man in the past 30 minutes in relation to a scam involving debit cards. He then asked for her full name before ending the call.

The next day at about 10am, the woman received another call from the man, who spoke with a Middle Eastern accent, and told her she was involved in the scam and asked her to tell him where she keeps her debit and credit cards.

The woman refused to give him any information and ended the call.

Anyone with any information on the incident, or anyone who thinks they may have been a victim of the scam, should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
