TEA, cakes and laughter proved a recipe for success at Pewsey’s first care cafe for those with dementia and short-term memory loss.

The group met last week at the Scout Hut to enjoy activities such as piecing together a jigsaw of landmarks in Wiltshire and talk about their lives over a hot drink and some sweet treats.

The new care cafe, which will take place the third Tuesday of each month, is being organised by the Pewsey Vale Dementia Group which was formed last year and is made up of members of the community and Pewsey Community Area Partnership (PCAP).

As well as offering support for those suffering from dementia and memory loss, the cafe is also open to carers of those living with the conditions and an occupational therapist will be on hand for to give advice.

Chair of the PCAP Dawn Wilson, said: “Pewsey is fortunate in that there is already an arts group and reading group for those living with dementia in the village and surrounding area but no memory café nearer than East Grafton. It was felt that there was scope for one in Pewsey.

“I think it went really well. We didn’t have a huge number of people there but we know it will take a long time to grow.”

The volunteers hope to develop the cafe by finding out from those attending what they would like to do at future meetings such as knitting.
